Persuasive Image

I chose one of the many PETA ads that are trying to make vegetarianism more attractive for the common public.

This particular ad shows Alyssa Milano in a dress of lettuce and other various vegetables. In a very sensual font the ad has posted next to her "Let Vegetarianism Grow on You". This ad is one of the less exposing of the series which has caused quite a bit of controversy, due to the lack of clothing the celebrities are wearing. The ad in itself is effective for some, but I believe that if they really wanted to get people to try to become vegetarians they should approach it in another way. The majority of audiences who see this ad, I believe, are not going to change their habits because she is wearing a dress of veggies.

I agree with you. The ad is not as effective as it could be. It is an interesting idea to have celebrities dress up in clothing made form vegetables but the execution in the ad did not work. I agree also that the audiences who see this ad are not going to change their habits because of a veggie dress. The slogan "Let Vegetarianism Grow on You" is a not a very strong persuasive argument either. It gives no emotional tug to the audiences to let vegetarianism grow on you. Overall this ad did not persuade me.

I agree that seeing Alyssa Milano in a dress of vegetables won't necessarily turn me into a vegetarian, but I do think the ad is very creative. However, if they really wanted to make the ad more persuasive, they could have approached it in a better and more convincing way by using rhetorical strategies such as pathos to appeal to a reader.

I agree that this might not be the most persuasive ad but it is a clever one. I'm still just as likely to eat a fat steak as I was yesterday, but the ad is definitley a good attention getter. They try to get the reader to appeal to celebrity and although she may not be an expert on vegetarianism (is that a word?) at least she practices what she preaches. Nothing wrong with Alyssa Milano in a lettuce dress, either.

I also think that the ad is pretty creative, yet I don't think it will change the majority of people's minds either. Using notable celebrities is a good way of getting your idea out to the public, but just because a celebrity is wearing veggies that doesn't mean that I want to be a vegetarian. It might take something like showing the animals that are killed for meat to have a little more of an impact on people that see this ad.
